Our Red Decomposed Granite 3/8" minus should be used as 3 to the 4-inch base material for red bocce ball courts. The use of other colors and types of the base material will likely result in discoloration of the playing surface over time. There are many D.G. materials that are red in color but most are just red dirt, not true quartz decomposed granite. True decomposed granite drains very well, and for this reason, our Red D. G. base should be installed over the Class II Permeable Road Base. The final layer will be a specially screened 2mm Red Bocce Ball Decomposed Granite High-Speed Surface.
2mm Red D. G. Surface Cover - Hard and Very Fast! Our specially screened 2mm red decomposed granite can be used largely to full size for bocce players to enjoy a very fast hard smooth surface. Balls moving at high speeds like this really need full-size courts ranging from 70 to 91 feet long and 10 to 13 feet wide. The Red D. G. 2mm fines are blended with 12 pounds of Dee Gee Stabilizer per ton of material. We suggest adding the same amount of Dee Gee Stabilizer each year after winter rains during regular maintenance practices.
